Over 5,000 Americans visit ‘Sri Lanka Embassy Open house’ in Washington D.C
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington D.C. opened its doors for American visitors as part of Passport DC’s ‘Around the World Embassy Tour’ from 10.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. on 04 May 2024. The open house launched under a special event, “Passport DC” was organized by Events DC in partnership with over 55 foreign Missions based in Washington D.C. including the Embassy of Sri Lanka. It is a month-long festival in May that pays tribute to Washington D.C.'s thriving international diplomatic community and its lively and varied culture. As part of the festival, the first Saturday in May, the ‘International Cultural Awareness Month’ in Washington D.C. is devoted to Embassy open houses.

Under the advice and guidance of Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Washington D.C.  Mahinda Samarasinghe, the Embassy made arrangements to promote Sri Lanka as an exciting tourist destination. Over 5,037 US nationals, as officially verified by the organizers of the Passport DC, visited the Embassy during the event which was a record despite bad weather.

As a unique feature of the event, a photographic exhibition of over 80 colorful photographs titled “Beauty of Sri Lanka” depicting the ancient cultural heritage, natural beauty with a special emphasis on wild life and the people of Sri Lanka, was presented by the "America - Sri Lanka Photographic Art Society Los Angeles" and captured the attention of all attendees.

The visitors were treated to traditional Sri Lankan hospitality and they were able to sample authentic Sri Lankan cuisine having witnessed live cooking demonstrations of preparing of kottu roti and hoppers. They were also able to taste a variety of finger foods from Sri Lanka. This was provided with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. The Embassy also offered all visitors a freshly brewed cup of hot or iced Ceylon tea sponsored by “Basilur (Sri Lanka)” and “QTrade Teas & Herbs (California, USA)”.

In Celebration of International Bio Diversity Day NDB Bank Volunteers Engage in Restoration in Mangrove Blue Carbon Project
In commemoration of the International Bio Diversity Day, NDB Bank has once again demonstrated its commitment to environmental conservation, as CEO Kelum Edirisinghe and NDB staff volunteered for mangrove restoration activities. This on-going effort is part of the 'Life to Our Mangroves' project, a collaborative Public-Private-Community Partnership and Multi-Partner initiative between NDB Bank, Biodiversity Sri Lanka (BSL), the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC), Wayamba University (WUSL) and other private sector companies.

The project, initiated in 2022, has progressed successfully. The science-based approach has provided valuable insight to overcome challenges and obtain a better growth rate. Community involvement has also been a key element in this journey. By enhancing ecological functions, habitat quality, and species diversity, the project contributes to biodiversity and ecosystem services, aligning with NDB's commitment to sustainability. During the restoration activities, volunteers, including the CEO and members of NDB's leadership team, planted 600 mangrove seeds and assisted in research activities on plant growth covering 03 hectares of the project site.

ICC announces extension to global partnership with Aramco
The International Cricket Council (ICC), today (09) announced a four-year extension to its global partnership with Aramco, one of the world’s leading integrated energy and chemicals companies.

Following a successful initial 18-month term, Aramco will continue as a Premier Partner of the ICC and the partnership will include all men’s and women’s senior and U19s events scheduled until the end of 2027, including the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and USA and followed by the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in September and October.

The themes at the core of the partnership are performance with a focus to engage a younger audience of cricket’s one billion fanbase, as the company expands its mission to deliver affordable, reliable and more sustainable energy to customers around the world.
